FAQs: Sites

What is a Default site?

When you have multiple sites, you must designate one of those sites to be the Default site. In general, the default site is the site that handles inbound calls. The default site also handles IVR initiated transfers in which it is unclear which site to use.

For more information, see Sites overview.

Can I use the PureCloud Voice – AWS site when creating phones?

No. If you use BYOC Cloud or Genesys Cloud Voice, when you create phones, do not select the PureCloud Voice – AWS site. This site is a managed site created by Genesys Cloud as a placeholder during the initial activation of BYOC Cloud or Genesys Cloud Voice. This site serves no other purpose. In fact, you cannot view it it nor configure it for use by your phones.

What are the differences between locations, geolocations, and sites in Genesys Cloud?

Genesys Cloud includes three independent concepts that people often call locations:

  • A location is a specific, physical place with an address. An admin configures locations. Locations appear in the Location section of your profile.

  • A geolocation is a geographic area that Genesys Cloud determines by IP address. An admin can enable or disable geolocation for an organization. Your geolocation appears near your name and photo on your profile page, on your contact card, at the top of a chat window, and in Genesys Cloud search results for your organization.

  • A site is a container for phone and BYOC Premises Edge configuration information and must have a designated location. While a site can have the same name as a location, the two are independent concepts. A telephony admin configures sites.

If I change the location associated with a site, will this temporarily impact my service?

No. Changing the location associated with a site will not impact service. But it can take several minutes for the address change to propagate to Emergency Services. If that is a concern, the action should be taken during a maintenance window.

How many sites can connect to Genesys Cloud?

Up to 1,000 sites can connect to Genesys Cloud. We recommend placing a minimum of two Edges in the site that has your telephony services. For more information, see Limits.
