Configure a network interface for a BYOC Premises Edge

When you configure an BYOC Premises Edge, you need to create a network connection on the Network tab. When connecting an edge device to your , it is best practice to deploy the edge device using two interfaces; the built-in interface and Port 2.

The WAN interface should be connected to a network segment that has outbound access to the public Internet, so it can securely connect to the Genesys Cloud platform. The second interface, Port 2, should be connected to a different network segment that has access to your internal company LAN. Separating the traffic will help prevent your Edge network interface from becoming congested as it tries to process all inbound and outbound traffic.

For customers that only have a single network segment, a premises-based Edge can also be deployed utilizing a single network interface. In a single interface deployment, the WAN interface on the Edge must be connected to the customer’s network for the Edge to function properly.

Notes:

Only the (WAN) Port can have a default gateway configured. If other ports require a gateway, you will need to configure a static route.
The WAN network interface port must connect to a network that supports external DNS resolution to ensure cloud connectivity.
Genesys recommends only adding DNS entries to the WAN port.
If you are configuring multiple NICs in your Edge, the IP addresses assigned to each NIC must be from different subnets.
Genesys Cloud only supports VLANs on the LAN port.

Configure a network interface

Click Admin.
Under Telephony, click Edges.
Click Menu > Channels > Telephony > Edges.
From the Edge Name column, select your Edge.
Click the Network tab.
Select the port to configure.
Select an IP version tab and choose the appropriate settings in each of the following sections:

External trunks

Choose the external trunks to connect to this network interface.

Click Use the following trunks.
Use the Select External Trunks list to choose any external trunks that you want to connect to the network interface.

Phone trunks

Choose the phone trunks to connect to this network interface.

Click Inherit from Edge Group, if this Edge is a part of a group the already contains an Edge that has phone trunks.
Click Use the following trunks, if you want to connect the network interface to existing phone trunks.
Use the Select Phone Trunks list to choose your phone trunks.

IP assignment

Configure the appropriate IP address information:

Click Static.
Enter an address in the IP Address box.
Enter a value in the Subnet Mask box.
Enter an address in the Gateway box.
Enter an address in the DNS Addresses box and click Plus .
Note: While you can enter multiple DNS addresses, Genesys Cloud only supports three DNS entries at one time. If you enter more than three DNS addresses, Genesys Cloud will randomly pick three of them and then use the WAN interface to attempt to reach those DNS servers. If Genesys Cloud is unable to access any of the three DNS servers, the Edge will go off-line.
- If you add more than one DNS address, you can click the Up/Down Arrows to change the order of the addresses in the list.
- If you want remove a DNS address, you can click Delete to delete an address.
Click Respond to ping requests under Ping, if you want to configure your Edge to respond to ICMP ping requests.
Configure the Static Routes:
- Enter an address in the IP or CIDR box.
- Select a value in the Select network mask box.
- Enter a Gateway address in the IP Address box.
- Enter number in the Cost Metric box.
- Click Plus .
Click Save Interfaces.
